Fried rice has a really specific taste and texture. The key here is we really need a substitute for soy sauce in fried rice. The great thing is that coconut aminos do the trick. They taste very similar to soy sauce, and act the same way in recipes. Best of all, they are gluten free, soy free, and generally allergy friendly! If you find the taste to be a bit off, add a little bit of salt, coconut aminos do not have as much salt as traditional soy sauce.
How to make gluten free soy free fried rice
Fried rice has a few simple ingredients that are luckily, naturally gluten free. Here’s what you need to make gluten free fried rice:
four cups of cooked white or brown rice (pick your favorite!) a tablespoon of your favorite cooking oil minced garlic (ginger also works well if you don’t want to use garlic) beaten eggs or a vegan scrambled egg substitute (or leave it out!) two cups of frozen peas and carrots (let’s make this easy!) one third of a cup of coconut aminos (no soy in this recipe!) two cups of ground chicken, beef, pork, or vegan ground meat substitute if you want this to stand on its own for a meal
The trick is you want your rice to be cold, so make it earlier in the day or the night before.
First, sauté your veggies and garlic in your favorite oil, then push it to the side of your pan and add in your scrambled eggs or vegan egg substitute if you are using it. Once it is cooked, mix the eggs and veggies together.
Then add your rice, soy sauce, and meat.
