Did you stop for coffee on your way to work this morning? Take a walk during your afternoon break for a java pick-me-up? If so, there’s a good chance you visited your local Starbucks coffee shop. But no matter if you have a daily Venti habit, you’re a fan of Frappuccinos on hot summer days and Pumpkin lattes on rainy October nights, or you can’t help but notice the green nautical logo everywhere, you may find these 50 facts about the world’s most popular coffee brand steamy and delicious:

1. What started in 1971 out as a small local coffee shop in Seattle has turned into the biggest coffee chain the world has ever seen, with 23,768 locations around the world, including more than 13,000 in the U.S.

2. Starbucks, which operates under ticker symbol SBUX on the NASDAQ stock exchange, is worth $70.9 billion and saw a record $19.2 billion in sales last year, ranking #52 as the world’s most valuable brands.

3. It’s still growing in leaps and bounds around the world. Since 2010, 4,678 new stores have opened- an average of 2.5 per day!

4. The Starbucks brand is so recognizable that they don’t even have to advertise their name anymore, just their logo. Don’t believe me? Take a look at their cups and you’ll see that they don’t even list the Starbucks name on there anymore, just their logo.

15. Unfortunately, their flavored drinks also contain an alarming amount of sugar. In fact, just a tall Classic Chai Latte – which is one of their least sugary flavored drinks – contains 32 grams of sugar, while the recommended daily maximum sugar intake is just 24 grams. Whoa!
