Since summer is in full swing and the temperatures are now into the upper 80’s and low 90’s, we figured it was time to head out and check out some ice cream joints!

We found Speedy’s Tasty Treats in Armstrong County, on the outskirts of Ford City. This restaurant, referred to by locals simply as Speedy’s, has been in the community for generations, although it has had different names throughout the years.

Speedy’s, has a wrap-around parking lot that offers plenty of parking for customers. However, if there is an event around Ford City or it’s an extremely warm, sunny day, that large parking lot will likely be packed.

Food:

Ice Cream:

Once you arrive at Speedy’s, you can order your ice cream at an outside window or inside the building. Either way, you’re going to get some great sweet treats!

Ice cream flavor choices include hard packed favorites like cookie dough, mint chocolate chip, and birthday cake, as well as traditional soft serve flavors, like vanilla, chocolate, and twist. In addition to the basic flavors available daily, Speedy’s has soft serve flavor of the day. Some popular soft serve flavor of the day options are peanut butter, Oreo, butterscotch, cake batter, chocolate butter fudge, as well as several more. You can also order sherbet, sorbet, frozen yogurt, or no sugar added ice cream.

Once you chose your flavor of ice cream, you have the choice of ordering it in a traditional cone, with toppings of your choice. You can also choose from a dozen added candies to make an Arctic Swirl, the Speedy’s equivalent of a DQ Blizzard. Speedy’s also offers sundaes, banana splits, milkshakes, slushes, ice cream sandwiches, and other novelty treats.

Hot Food:

Along with all of the fantastic frozen treats, Speedy’s offers a hot food menu for hungrier stomachs. From burgers, to hot sausage sandwiches, grilled or crispy chicken, to gyros, or wings by the dozen, there are meals to satisfy any taste buds. There is also a menu of sides nearly as long as the main menu.

The food is good and is usually ready quickly, so it is a good stop when you are on the go.

Atmosphere:

The inside of the restaurant is really cute and has a homey feel to it. When you walk inside the building you are greeted by one of the young ladies working there. Everyone inside is extremely friendly, employees and customers alike.

There is a counter with four stools where you place your order, where you can sit for the rest of your visit, or you can sit in the small dining room with seating for 12 patrons. There are also tables and chairs around the outside of the building if you want to enjoy the outdoors while you eat your food.

More than likely you will see the owners working alongside their employees or visiting with customers. It is pretty easy to tell that many of the customers frequent the small restaurant. Even if you are not one of the regulars, you may leave feeling like a part of the Speedy’s family.

Overall:

The food is all wonderful, and there are plenty of options to choose from.

Try some of the hot food. Speedy’s is a great ice cream shop that has more to offer.

Even if you are just getting ice cream, take a look inside the dining room.

I would definitely recommend trying Speedy’s.
